2012 – 2013 Theme

After much deliberation with a wide variety of representatives across the Division of Student Affairs, the IPC has determined the most inclusive and intentional theme for 2012-2103 is:

Explore Your Inner Pirate

Power of One – Value of All

This theme has been chosen due to its wide implications across the entire ECU community and has applicable tie-ins to all Division of Student Affairs programming departments. Our students will be challenged to explore their own personal needs for growth and building self-confidence through enhancing various skills. However, at ECU we acknowledge the service we all must take to our University members, local, regional, and wider community, and most importantly those that we interact with every day.

To narrow the wide thematic topic into descriptive approaches to this theme, we have chosen three key areas for programmatic offerings:

Ethical Decision Making Skills can be defined as your personal standards of right and wrong. Ethics decisions come from a place of conscience. For many, conscience is an internal source of reward and punishment.

Civic Engagement can be defined as active collaboration that builds on the resources, skills, expertise, and knowledge of the campus and community to improve the quality of life in communities in a manner that is consistent with the campus mission.

Community Building can be defined as an appreciation and understanding of others who share your same community and being able to positively communicate with them about who they are and what they are about as well as work collaboratively to solve issues or concerns faced by all members.
