Return of Pirate Nation

ECU Adjusting Fall Semester

August 23, 2020: Throughout the summer, we planned and prepared our campus for the Return of Pirate Nation, and more than two weeks ago, we welcomed Pirates back to campus. We’ve completed two weeks of classes in our first eight-week block for the fall semester. However, during the last week we have experienced a rapid acceleration of COVID-19 cases, including multiple clusters.

For this reason, University leadership has worked with UNC System President Peter Hans to determine what is best for the health and safety of our Pirates moving forward. We are appreciative of the ongoing support and approval of our plan by President Hans to move our undergraduate classes to online instruction beginning Wednesday, Aug. 26. Please read this message in full for additional details.

This decision to move online for the fall semester was not taken lightly. I realize that for some this news is not what you wanted or expected for your fall semester. Whether or not you welcome this change, I know these are difficult times for all, and we have resources ready to help you. The Counseling Center, 252-328-6661, is available for virtual appointments; Student Health Services is available at 252-328-6841 and gotquestions@ecu.edu; and the Dean of Students Office is available at 252-328-9297.

COVID-19 Protocols

We know that our students and their families have questions about what campus life will continue to look like for those who remain living on-campus and in the Greenville area for the Fall 2020 semester. Click on the buttons below to see updated hours of operation.

In addition to the steps you should be taking to protect yourself from the novel coronavirus, the university is developing and implementing new policies and procedures to lessen the spread of COVID-19 within our campus community.

Return to Pirate Nation

During the 113-year history of ECU, we’ve weathered some significant storms. This fall we will face the public health storm of COVID-19 together. This university website and its accompanying documents, including the detailed strategy to reopen, lay out the plan for the Return of Pirate Nation.

Please continue to check this site daily as guidance may be updated based on public health information from federal, state, UNC System and local experts.

Protecting Our Pirates

Simply put: For us to return, we must accept less independence, more guidelines and rules, and several key community expectations. We must work together. We hope you will accept this important responsibility for our community and our university.
