About the First Year Cares Initiative
Mission
The First Year Cares initiative connects incoming first year students with resources and services based on survey data and predictive analytics. Using intentional outreach, programming, and connection opportunities, we make the transition to ECU as smooth as possible. The Student Success team provides holistic support and coordinated communication to students as they move throughout their first year at ECU.
What We Do
- Guide students in developing effective academic strategies and personal accountability skills.
- Engage in open discussions about any challenges the students may be facing.
- Monitor ECU Connect alerts and reach out proactively.
- Facilitate connections between students and available campus resources.
- Host an innovative and collaborative series of programs.

Out of Office Hours
The Student Success Hubs welcome a broad range of faculty and staff from across campus to host their office hours in the MCSC. Students are invited in to chat with the professionals about class, college, careers, or anything on their mind. It is a chance to build community and find support from our caring staff!
