The Outstanding Fresh Check Day Campus Award is presented to a college campus for their outstanding planning, promotion, implementation, outstanding engagement, impactful messaging at interactive booths, and high student attendance.  Campus Recreation and Wellness, the Center for Counseling and Student Development and Student Health Services hosted Fresh Check Day on November 2, 2016 on the Mendenhall Student Center Brickyard. 2017 Spring Career Fairs

Spring Career Fair 2017ECU career fairs serve as the university’s primary point of connection for students with potential employers and allow students to explore job opportunities and discover how their academic majors relate to career options.

Below is information regarding the spring 2017 ECU career fairs. Please encourage students to save these dates and to attend.

Summer Jobs and Internships Fair

1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
February 9, 2017
Student Recreation Center

East Carolina University will be hosting the second annual “Summer Jobs and Internships Fair” on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Student Recreation Center from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Employers from summer camps, parks and recreation, commercial tourism, nonprofit organizations, athletic camps, and civic organizations will attend the fair.  There are part-time, full-time, internship, and co-op opportunities for students in a broad range of majors, including recreation, leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, early childhood development, social work, education, athletic training, hospitality, political science, and nursing.

There is no cost for students to attend and business dress is not required.  Career Services can help prepare students for this event with resume review and mock interview practice.

Education Career Fair

March 1, 2017
8:00 AM-10:00 AM
Greenville Convention Center

The Spring Education Career Fair will be a great opportunity for students to network and present themselves as a possible candidate for job or internship opportunities. It is required for all ECU education students graduating this spring and is open to all majors.  During the two-hour session, students will network with more than 80 employers, including school systems in Pitt, Wake and Guilford counties.

Meeting employers at these types of events is like having a pre-screening interview, so students want to prepare in advance.

All ECU students and alumni are invited to attend any time between 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. The event is FREE!

Spring Career Fair

March 1, 2017
1:00 PM-4:00 PM
Greenville Convention Center

The Spring Career Fair for all majors brings more than 150 employers to Greenville for recruitment of ECU students and alumni who are seeking internships, part-time and full-time career opportunities. Attendees can establish connections with potential employers as well as develop networking skills.

The companies that have attended past career fairs include: Coca Cola Bottling Company, Glaxo Smith Kline, Hospira, Hyster-Yale (formerly NAACO), Kings Dominion, Mayne Pharma, TQL (Total Quality Logistics), CVS Pharmacy, Lenovo, and Vidant Health.

Last year, 53% of students attending the career fairs were hired for full-time positions and more than two-thirds of attendees garnered at least one internship, part-time job or created a professional business relationship with an employer.

Students should dress in business professional attire and bring their ECU OneCard. A full list of attending employers and additional career fair information is available on the Career Services website.

Campus Living Wins National Program of the Year from NACURH

Shoes 2017The National Association of College & University Residence Halls, Inc. (NACURH) has selected East Carolina University as the Program of the Year winner for their S.H.O.E.S. (Students Honoring Others’ Everyday Struggles) project. This award recognizes outstanding leaders, programs, and practices on university campuses which ECU had already won regionally as the South Atlantic Affiliate.

The S.H.O.E.S. Project is a program ECU’s Residence Hall Association developed in response to the number of students suffering from mental health issues and illnesses. The Residence Hall Association (RHA) wanted to do something to help the students. Many students are dealing with issues they have had for a while, as well as new ones coming to light at this especially prone age group. Students have different methods of dealing including alcohol, drugs, eating disorders, and self-harm. The goal was to visibly and unobtrusively show students that they are not alone and that there are a lot of helpful resources available. The benefit of the S.H.O.E.S Program is its ability to easily be replicated from one campus to another.

Congratulations to Campus Living, the Residence Hall Association and ECU partners for winning this national honor!

Please take some time to read the detailed award proposal submitted to NACURH!

The session also offers an opportunity for faculty to break into groups to discuss real-life scenarios and are then given the opportunity to ask the student veterans questions.

Faculty and staff throughout East Carolina University who complete the training are designated as knowledgeable about issues faced by student veterans and receive the Green Zone sticker to signify a “safe place” for student veterans.
