Student Employment Supervisors Series Launches to Support Student Success
This summer, faculty and staff from across campus participated in the inaugural Student Employment Supervisors Series, a new professional development initiative designed to strengthen the skills, knowledge, and community of supervisors who work directly with student employees.
Held over three interactive sessions, participants explored effective student supervision techniques, team-building, motivation, mentoring, university policies and procedures related to student employment, and campus resources that support student employee success. Supervisors also learned about the ECU GROW program and strategies for creating high-impact employment experiences that complement students’ academic learning.
The series brought together current and future student employee supervisors from across the university to share ideas, build connections, and reinforce the important role on-campus employment plays in student development.
The Student Employment Supervisors Series was made possible through the collaboration and support of ECU’s Center for Student Success, Financial Wellness, POSO, and Financial Aid. Thank you to everyone who participated in making this inaugural series a success
ECU GROW Revisions Planned for the 2026-2027 Academic Year
The ECU GROW (Guided Reflection on Work) program will implement these changes starting Fall 2026:
- A monthly “supervisors series” will be offered throughout the year — these sessions will be open to all student supervisors including current ECU GROW supervisors. The monthly schedule will be announced soon.
- Supervisors should engage in consistent GROW conversations — 2-3 times per semester — with student staff members; the GROW questions can be adapted to specific departmental needs.
- At least one student staff meeting per semester should be planned that is focused on goal-setting and student reflection on experience.
- The Center for Student Success will host one virtual meeting in December and one in-person meeting in April for all GROW supervisors.
