Sustainability and Resource Stewardship

House Divided
During the summer of 2025 the Office of Parent and Family Programs partnered with NC State’s Parents and Families Services on the House Divided in Service Together fundraiser, transforming the ECU-NC State football rivalry into an opportunity to support Hurricane Helene relief efforts at Appalachian State University and UNC Asheville.

Together, the two institutions raised $17,675, with funds split evenly to address campus specific recovery needs. At UNC Asheville, support helped restore and expand the Food Equity Initiative after the campus pantry space was damaged, providing pantry supplies, signage, and resources to strengthen food security efforts.
At Appalachian State, funding supported several campus areas, including University Recreation, the Child Development Center, Dean of Students Office, and the Mountaineer Food Hub and Food Pantry Network. Contributions included pantry goods and new outdoor seating to create spaces for community and connection.
To conclude the initiative, ECU and NC State leaders visited both campuses to personally deliver items and connect with the students and teams impacted by the generosity of the Pirate and Pack communities. The initiative highlighted the power of collaboration and service in supporting neighboring institutions during times of need.
Rivals in spirit. Partners in service. United in recovery.
SGA Initiatives
The Student Government Association made significant investments throughout the semester to enhance the student experience, improve campus wellness, and strengthen student support services. SGA allocated funding to expand access to essential health resources by installing a RecRe Box in the Main Campus Student Center, a Healthy Pirate To-Go vending machine in Joyner Library, expanding free menstruation products to the Health Sciences Student Center and Eakin Recreation Center, and partnering with Student Health Services to install sunscreen dispensers at football games.
SGA also prioritized student well-being and basic needs by expanding the Swipe Out Hunger program, donating more than 500 meals to combat food insecurity, launching the Food for Fines initiative that collected over 630 food items for the William-Ross Purple Pantry, and providing additional financial support, meal swipes, hygiene products, and funding to both the William-Ross Purple Pantry and Lil’ Pirate Pantry. SGA further promoted student wellness by distributing 500 Healthy Pirate Kits and mental health resource magnets to students living in residence halls.
To foster a safer and more connected campus community, SGA partnered with ECU Police to enhance the Pirate Pathways initiative through the installation of new blue lights and panoramic cameras, collaborated with the Grounds Crew on campus beautification efforts, supported Move-In activities, and worked alongside the Tar River University/Neighborhood Association and the City of Greenville to promote the Good Neighbor Initiative by distributing educational materials on responsible community living in the GRID. SGA also invested in an Iris Professional Photo Booth that has provided over 1,500 free professional headshot sessions for members of the ECU community. Together, these initiatives reflect SGA’s ongoing commitment to improving campus resources, advancing student success, and enriching the overall Pirate experience.
